Plans by the Tory leader of Leicestershire county council Nick Rushton to abolish all local Boroughs including Hinckley and Bosworth and replace them with one Unitary authority for Leicestershire have been condemned by a leading Liberal Democrat. Hinckley County Councillor and Leicestershire Lib Dem Finance spokesman Cllr Michael Mullaney said "These plans would see areas like Hinckley miss out. They will lead to massive centralisation of decision making in the county and areas like Hinckley and Burbage on the edge of the county are likely to be overlooked. It's particularly concerning if control over planning applications end up with the County Council given we are expected to take so much development here without the infrastructure needed being delivered by government.
