Scrap local government reorganisation in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
We call on the Prime Minister to abandon plans for local government reorganisation in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
This costly exercise is not needed. It will cause huge upheaval and mean local government is no longer truly local.
Local government reorganisation was not in the Government's manifesto. They have no mandate for it. They want to create two new “super councils”:
- One would see large swathes of the county swallowed up by Leicester City Council
- The other would create a huge council stretching from Hinckley to Oakham and from Melton to Loughborough
Decisions would be taken miles away from local people. Council tax would rise for many residents. Local government would no longer be local.
Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats are standing up for local democracy. Add your name and call on the Government to scrap these plans.
