Hundreds sign petition to save Hinckley's"Big Pit"

Well over 250 residents living near the site of the "Big Pit" wildlife haven in Hinckley have signed a petition opposing plans to fill in the site. The petition was organised by Hinckley Lib Dem County Councillor Michael Mullaney and local Lib Dem Borough Councillors Jeff Bannister, Lynda Hodgkins and Keith Nichols. This Thursday the County Councils Planning Committee will be deciding on whether to allow a planning application for the Big Pit, a nature feature behind Asda, Hinckley to be filled in to allow houses to be built on it. The petition opposing these plans highlights concerns that filling in the "Big Pit" could increase the risk of flooding to nearby properties, and that there could be fifty lorries a day taking materials onto the access route on Ashby Road, Hinckley. Council backs the Charter to Stop the Payday Loan Rip-Off

A motion proposed by Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth Cllr Michael Mullaney and seconded by Barwell Lib Dem Cllr Mathew Hulbert has got Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to back the Charter to Stop the Payday Loan Rip-off. The Charter calls for tougher regulation of payday lenders and is supported by some of Britain's biggest debt, consumer and anti-poverty organisations - including Which?, Citizens Advice, StepChange Debt Charity, Church Action on Poverty, and the Centre for Responsible Credit.

Councillors welcome protecting of "The Paddock" greenspace

Councillors in Hinckley have welcomed the decision by Hinckley and Bosworth's Planning Committee to turn down plans to build on "The Paddock" greenspace. An application for ten houses on the site of "The Paddock" off Coventry Road, Hinckley were voted down by the Planning Committee on Tuesday night. The decision to turn down the plans was proposed by Cllr Keith Lynch (Lib Dem Hinckley Clarendon) and seconded by Cllr Diane Taylor (Lib Dem Hinckley Clarendon) Lib Dem County Cllr for Hinckley Michael Mullaney said ""The Paddock" is a piece of green space that residents in the Coventry Road area have campaigned for years to keep. Many residents will welcome the news that the Planning Committee has voted to protect this natural habitat, the last piece of original countryside left in the Coventry Road area of Hinckley." Hinckley Councillors call for green space to be saved

Hinckley Lib Dem Councillors David Bill and Michael Mullaney are calling for the green space called "The Paddock" off Coventry Road in Hinckley to be saved. The Paddock is subject to a planning application, which if passed would see it built on. Cllrs David Bill and Michael Mullaney have written a joint statement to the Council's Planning Department urging rejection of plans to build on The Paddock. Their submission said "In line with the stand taken by residents and their elected represntatives for the last 15 years, we again wish to object to the proposal to build on this site as it is the last remaining stretch of original countryside remaining in the Coventry Road area." The decision on the application will be taken at Tuesday's meeting of Hinckley and Bosworth Planning Committee
