Cllr backs campaign to scrap Police Commissioners
A campaign to scrap Police Commissioners has got the support of a leading local Liberal Democrat. A petition has been launched to scrap the elections for Police Commissioners due in 2016. Supporting the campaign Hinckley Cllr Michael Mullaney said "The Police Commissioner elections in 2016 are likely to cost up to £100 million. That money could be much better spent on frontline policing. The turnout in the first Police Commissioner elections in 2012 was a mere 14.9%. It is clear that there is no public demand for this politicising of the police."
