Working Time Directive compromising patient safety - Local Lib Dems

"This damning report is deeply worrying," said Michael Mullaney Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson for Bosworth.

Commenting on today's report into the European Working Time Regulation (EWTR) by the Royal College of Surgeons, which reveals almost half of doctors surveyed believe it has compromised patient safety, Michael Mullaney said:

"This damning report is deeply worrying. The Government ignored warnings about the impact of the EWTR and doctors now say that patient safety is being compromised.

"Ministers rushed through reforms without thinking about the impact on patients or frontline staff.

"With almost half of doctors worried about the safety of their patients, there must be an urgent assessment of the impact these rules are having on care and medical training."
