Michael Mullaney and the Liberal Democrats are fighting against the unfair Tenant Tax

A motion put by Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats won overwhelming support at the East Midlands Liberal Democrat Regional Conference held on Saturday.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth, Michael Mullaney, proposed the motion which called for the scrapping of the "Tenant Tax".

Michael Mullaney said "In Hinckley and Bosworth, and many other places, the government are inflicting on tenants a "Tenant Tax", otherwise called the negative housing subsidy.

"This means that in places like Hinckley and Bosworth, tenants are having a large amount of the money that they pay in rent being taken away by the government and spent elsewhere.

"Scrapping the tenant tax would benefit many tenants in Hinckley and Bosworth. At present more than a third of the money paid by tenants in Hinckley and Bosworth is taken away by the government. Ending this unfair system would mean that money would be available for Hinckley and Bosworth council to spend on repairing and improving local tenants homes more quickly."
