Petition launched to keep Library provision in Barwell

30 Jun 2014

A petition has been set up calling on Leicestershire County Council to withdraw the threatened changes to Barwell Library.

Liberal Democrats in the village have set it up so local people can express their dissatisfaction at the proposed changes which would mean no longer having professional librarians running it and it would cease to be funded by the County Council.

Councillor Mathew Hulbert (Lib Dem, Barwell) says, 'Our Library is a much used and much loved facility in our village and I think it's shameful that the Tory-run County Council have proposed these changes which, if accepted, could mean the Library has to close if there's not volunteers able to take over the running of some of its services.'

Councillor Michael Mullaney, the Lib Dem's Parliamentary Spokesman for the area, says 'We've set up this online petition so local people can express their dissatisfaction with the proposed changes.

We'd also encourage them to take part in the official LCC consultation and we hope the Tory Cabinet at County Hall will properly listen to what's been said and put a stop to these proposed cuts.'
