Market Bosworth Police Station Success

5 May 2009

A local police station is to be re-opened to the public after a successful campaign mounted by Liberal Democrat Councillors and members of the public.

A petition to re-open the Market Bosworth police station to the public was organised by Liberal Democrat Councillor Bill Crooks. He has now handed in the petition which was signed by well over a hundred people in the village.

Cllr Crooks said "I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign to re-open the police station.

"The good news is that the police have now listened to local people's concerns and are prepared to act. They have now agreed, as a start, to re-open the station to the public on Wednesday mornings.

"This is good news but we will continue to press Leicestershire police to open it on a more frequent basis.

"Hinckley and Bosworth council have now made it one of their targets to re-open the police station and this is written into our strategy for the area.

"The police are looking for volunteers to help man the station, similar to a successful scheme in operation in Melton Mowbray. If volunteers come forward the police could open the station even more often."
