Lib Dems reflect on year of success

17 Jan 2008

Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth held their AGM recently, celebrating a year of tremendous success for the party locally. Party Chairman Cllr Stuart Bray used his report to the meeting to sum up the party's success at last May's local elections.

Cllr Stuart Bray told the packed meeting in Burbage, "Against the national trends we had our most successful year in our constituency's history. We were just one of two Council's what went from Conservative control to overall Lib Dem control. We made 10 gains - the best result in the region. By contrast Labour had a disastrous night. They were virtually wiped out and came a poor third in the share of the vote. It is clear that in this area the fight is between the Lib Dems and the Tories."

Cllr Stuart Bray was re-elected Chairman for the year. Alderman Valerie Bill was elected honorary president, Genesta Cope was elected vice Chair, Cllr Peter Hall Treasurer, Cllr Adrian Smith Membership Secretary, Joyce Crooks was elected fundraising officer and Ann Crabtree Secretary.
