Huge petition on Hinckley NHS services submitted to the Borough Council

A paper petition containing almost 6000 names calling for the keeping of Mount Road Hospital in Hinckley was submitted to the Borough Council by local NHS campaigners yesterday, another copy of the petition will be sent to the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for West Leicestershire. In addition to the nearly 6000 named paper petition around another 3000 have signed online petitions to save the hospital.

The petitions were collected by Hinckley NHS campaigners organised by Lynda Gibbs.

Speaking at the hand over of the petition Councillor Michael Mullaney (Hinckley: Lib Dem) said "This demonstrates the enormous support for maintaining the Mount Road Hospital in Hinckley.

"The Hinckley urban area, including Burbage, Barwell, and Earl Shilton has one of the biggest population concentrations in Leicestershire. It is also a growing population and needs improved, not reduced, NHS services locally.

"I hope the CCG will listen to the huge reaction from the Hinckley area and accept that we need either to maintain and modernise the Mount Road hospital or we need a new Walk in Centre or Minor Injuries Unit to serve the people of the Hinckley area"
