Hinckley councillors welcome relaunch of successful back to work club in town

24 Jan 2014

The relaunch of a group designed to help Hinckley job seekers back into work has got a warm welcome from councillors in the town.

Hinckley Liberal Democrat councillors, David Bill, Stuart Bray, Michael Mullaney and the Mayor Lynda Hodgkins attended the official relaunch of the Hinckley Workclub, at Hinckley Library recently

The Workclub offers support, like help with writing CVs and interview techniques to local people seeking work.

The club was threatened with being closed in 2012 however. When one of the Workclub members Susan Mannion contacted Hinckley councillors they sprang into action and got the Borough Council to provide support to the Workclub until the County Council stepped in to renew the funding.

Lib Dem Hinckley County Councillor Michael Mullaney said "It was great to attend the relaunch and see so many local people benefit from this great service that helps local people back into work.

"Credit for saving the club should go to Susan Mannion, a local club member, who wrote to David Bill and myself asking us to take up the cause of saving it when it was going to be scrapped.

"It is great to have been able to help this important service in Hinckley to keep going.

"At the relaunch it was heartening to hear that, since November, the club has helped 30 local unemployed people get back into work.

"This is exactly the kind of scheme we need locally to help get people into jobs."
