Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats welcome new powers to crack down on yobs

Lib Dem Cllr David Bill, Hinckley and Bosworth's councillor responsible for community safety, has welcomed government plans to crackdown on yobs.

Under plans announced today police will be given a range of new powers to deal with those caught carrying out minor crimes. Police will be given "direction" powers to move any individual causing or likely to cause crime or disorder away from a particular place and confiscate their belongings.

The new Criminal Behaviour Order will be issued by the courts after a conviction to prevent further offending, while the Community Protection Order will allow police and local authorities to tackle persistent offenders.

The orders would ban individuals from certain activities or places and a breach could land the perpetrator in jail for five years.

Cllr David Bill said "These measures should help deal with the yobs and thugs who make far too many decent people's lives a misery.

"I welcome these tough proposals. If several people in the same neighbourhood complain or if one victim complains three times without any action being taken police will be forced to take action against the perpertrators."
