Hinckley and Bosworth Councillor calls on the government to introduce a heating oil cap before winter

Liberal Democrat  Councillor Michael Mullaney said "Liberal Democrats have fought for years to put off-grid rural communities like mine in Hinckley and Bosworth on the agenda. While the Government has finally woken up and acknowledged the heating oil rip-off faced by millions, this is classic too little, too late.

"Tackling rogue suppliers is the bare minimum. Government proposals to strengthen consumer protection do not address the price households pay to heat their homes. It does nothing to protect rural families from crippling bills. In Hinckley and Bosworth households have watched their heating oil costs soar through no fault of their own.

“Local residents cannot be treated as an afterthought just because they live off the gas grid. Heating oil must be regulated with the same protections as mains gas and electricity. Ministers must introduce an emergency price cap now before another winter of soaring energy bills unfolds on Labour’s watch.”
