County Council slammed for wasting money on publicity

9 Jul 2010

Local Liberal Democrats have condemned Leicestershire County Council's Conservative leadership for planning to spend up to £75,000 on recruiting a new head of communications.

Liberal Democrat County Councillor Stuart Bray has slammed the move as a waste of money "At a time when Tory County Hall bosses are telling us they can't afford to pay grants to Westfield Community Centre because they haven't got the money it is shameful that they should be wasting up to £75,000 on a publicity post.

"I am sure local people would much rather this £75,000 was spent supporting Westfield Community Centre, stopping the cuts to school bus services or keeping the Limes Care Home.

"This just shows the Conservatives warped priorities. Spend more money on council propaganda whilst cutting back on vital local services.

"The Conservatives are clearly out of touch with local people's concerns."
