County Council slammed for massive rise in spending on publicity

5 May 2009

Shock figures reveal that Conservative controlled Leicestershire County Council has had one of the biggest increases in spending on public relations.

Over the last five years the County Council's spending on publicity has rocketed by 73%. This made it the fifth biggest increase out of 55 County and Unitary council's that were surveyed.

Cllr Stuart Bray, Chairman of Hinckley and Bosworth Liberal Democrats said "At a time when the County Council are still putting up Council Tax. Increasing care charges for pensioners and threatening to cut jobs, it is shocking that they should be wasting so much taxpayers money on publicity.

"Last year Conservative County Council bosses spent over a million pounds on publicity. Surely this money could have been better spent on providing lower council tax, reducing pensioners care charges and improving the gritting of local roads".
