County Council budget will cost Leicestershire people more and deliver them less

Leicestershire County Council's Conservative budget was condemned today as a budget that would "cost the people of Leicestershire more and deliver them less."

Speaking at the County budget meeting opposition Finance spokesperson Lib Dem Cllr Michael Mullaney said "Residents in Leicestershire will be hit by a 3.99% Council Tax rise and cuts to essential local services. Many Sure Start Children's Centres are closing and vital local bus services face being cut.

"Why are Leicestershire residents facing higher Council Tax rises and huge service cuts? It's because the Conservative County Council and the seven Conservative Leicestershire MPs have failed to deliver fair funding for our area.

"Leicestershire is the worst funded County by this Tory government and this year for the first time Leicestershire gets no revenue support grant from the government.

Michael Mullaney continued "So long as this Tory government fails to fund our County fairly, local residents will continue to face being hit by Council Tax rises that will cost them more and service cuts that will deliver them less."
