Councillors back shop keeper in parking call

Lib Dem Councillors representing Thornycroft Road in Hinckley have threw
their support behind a local shopkeeper who is calling for a limited parking
bay to be installed near his shop.

Mr Rathod, who owns Shop Local on Thornycroft Road, has been collecting
petition signatures from his customers calling on the County Council as
Highways Authority to remove the double-yellow lines outside his shop and
replace it with one or two limited parking bays so that customers can stop
outside and nip in to get their shopping.

County Councillor Stuart Bray (Lib Dem, Burbage Castle) has agreed to back
Mr Rathod in his campaign and has presented the 300 plus name petition to
the County Council.

Cllr Bray says, "I'm very happy to be helping Mr Rathod with his campaign.
Local shops such as his are very convenient for many of the people who I
represent and we should be doing all we can to help them out. Thornycroft
Road suffers from terrible parking problems and near "Shop Local" the road
is wide and there is space to accommodate one or two limited parking bays.
The problem is there are currently double-yellow lines down.

"The County Council Highways Department have promised to undertake a review
of parking restrictions across Hinckley and I urge them to look positively
at Mr Rathod's suggestions."
