Councillor urges ambulance service chiefs to think again

A Hinckley Councillor is urging the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) to re-think plans that could see the ambulance station in Hinckley close.

Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman Cllr Michael Mullaney (Hinckley Trinity, Lib Dem) is calling on Emas to reconsider the proposals which would see the 66 current ambulance stations, including one in Hinckley, replaced by 13 hub stations one of which will be in Leicester.

Michael Mullaney said "The ambulance station is an important local service and I am asking Emas to re-think their plans.

"To reduce the number of stations to just 13 across so big an area as the East Midlands is a concern and questions need to be asked about whether so few stations can cover such a big area.

"Before any decision is taken on the future of the Hinckley station we need more information on likely ambulance response times, the arrangements for cleaning vehicles between patients and the impact on the ambulance crews.

"Local people need to know that the setting up of these new ambulance hubs and the removing of our local ambulance station will not damage this vital service that local people need."
