Denise Wood from the Pensioners Action Group said "The response from local people has been fantastic. We have run many petitions in recent years and this has been easily one of the most popular."

Michael Mullaney Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Hinckley and Bosworth said "It is clear that local people are firmly opposed to the plans to cut Hinckley's Firefighters. I hope that this massive response will force the Fire Authority to drop their ill-thought out plans."
